CHP says truck driver ignored signs and followed GPS onto prohibited Sonora Pass

Sonora Pass was shut down on Tuesday after a semi truck driver followed GPS directions and became stuck, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

On July 14, 2026, CHP’s Bridgeport Division reported that a semi truck driver “ignored numerous signs and warnings because his GPS said it was okay to take this route.”

According to Caltrans, State Route 108 (Sonora Pass) is closed due to the stuck truck blocking both lanes just east of Leavitt Creek Vista Point.
