A truck driver was ejected from his truck after jackknifing on Interstate 5 in Southern California on Thursday morning.

The accident happened at around 4 a.m. on September 17th on southbound I-5 near Camino de la Plaza in San Ysidro, California.

According to Fox5 San Diego, the 25-year-old truck driver was unable to negotiate a curve in the road and collided with a barrier wall, causing the rig to jackknife. The force of the impact ejected the driver from the truck cab, and left the semi truck blocking multiple lanes of traffic.

The accident forced the closure of all southbound lanes of I-5, blocking all entry into Mexico through the Port of San Ysidro. The cause of the accident is still under investigation. Officials say only that the driver “was unable to negotiate the curvature on the roadway and crashed into a concrete wall.”

Drugs or alcohol are not considered factors in the crash. Witnesses say the driver was going approximately 60 mph when he crashed into an overpass pillar. The 25-year-old driver from El Sobrante, California was hauling an Amazon trailer at the time of the crash. He sustained major injuries, but his current condition is not known, reported NBC San Diego.

All lanes of traffic were reopened at about 9:45 a.m. Anyone with information about the incident or who may have witnessed the crash is encouraged to contact CHP investigators directly at 858-293-6000.
